Under-crop (for cereals / maize) mixture or aftercrop as Biomass accumulation mixture

This mixture can be under-sown in cereals or maize in spring.

  • When sowed into maize (when the maize has 8 leaves), it would protect the inter-rows from weeds, erosion, water evaporation from the soil, nutrient leaching. Legumes will provide additional nitrogen; annual Italian ryegrass will help with its allelopathic and mycorrhizal properties
  • This mixture can also be grown as a biomass accumulation / soil enrichment mixture by sowing it as aftercrop, as it can produce a large amount of both above-ground and underground biomass, suppress weeds, loosen and enrich the soil
  • Hairy vetch deeply loosens the soil, improves the soil structure, and promotes mycorrhizae
