LUUKAS

Avena sativa L.

An early, productive, large-grain, high-yield quality oat suitable for the grain milling industry and feed

One of the earliest oat varieties on the market

A new level of early oat yield potential

  • Although it is early, it can compete with later oat varieties in yield
  • Vegetation period (in Finland) – around 90 days (which equals to 935 growing degree sum)
  • Under favourable conditions, oats of this variety can be two weeks earlier than oats of late varieties
  • Stem – strong
  • Resistance to lodging – good
  • Resistance to diseases – good
  • Resistance to oat leaf blotch – medium
  • Resistance to rust – medium
  • Has one of the lowest risks of DON toxins released by Fusarium fungi
  • If direct sowing to stubble is used, seed treatment and disease control with fungicides is recommended
  • In extreme heat and drought, seeds tend to be thin, due to early maturity
  • Grain – white
  • Hull – thin
  • The grain peels easily
  • 1000 grain weight – 39.0 g
  • Small, i.e. the share of grains, smaller than 2 mm, is low – 3.6 %
  • Hectoliter weight – 53.0 kg/hl
  • Excellent quality of grains
  • Protein content – 14.0 %
  • Fat content – 6.0 %
  • Content of beta glucans – high
  • Hul content – 22.0 %
  • Quality meets the needs of the grain milling industry, used for food
  • Can also be used for feed
  • Suitable for growing in all types of soil, but best quality is produced on clay and mineral soils
  • When growing in better soils, it is recommended to apply growth regulators
  • The optimal nitrogen rate in good soils is 60-80 kg/ha. In order to increase the protein content, the N rate can be increased to 120-130 kg/ha by dividing it (2/3 given before sowing)
  • PK fertilizer is applied in the spring, depending on the soil. Manganese is preferred.
  • Yield (with hulls) – 6 166 kg/ha
  • Yield (without hulls) – 4 894 kg/ha
  • Plant height – 92 cm
  • Lodging – 12.6 %
  • 1000 grain weight – 39.0 g
  • Hectoliter weight – 53.2 kg/hl
  • Protein content – 12.6 %
  • Grain hull content – 22.1%

Recommended sowing rate: 400-450 seeds/m2, or 210-230 kg/ha. At unfavourable conditions recommendation to increase sowing rate to 550-600 seeds/m2
